What Counts as a Dental Emergency
Some problems cannot wait for a routine appointment. Severe or throbbing toothache, a broken or cracked tooth, a knocked-out tooth, swelling in the gums or face, a lost crown or filling with sharp pain, and bleeding that will not stop are all good reasons to call us. If you are not sure whether it is urgent, call anyway. We would rather hear from you early than have a small problem grow into a serious one. Dr. Giovanni Gonzalez and our team make room for urgent cases, so you can be seen quickly and stop hurting.
What to Do Before You Arrive
A few simple steps can protect the tooth while you are on your way. Rinse your mouth gently with warm water and hold a cold compress against your cheek if it is swollen. If a tooth has been knocked out, pick it up by the crown, not the root, rinse it lightly and try to set it back in the socket, or keep it in milk until you reach us. Do not place aspirin directly on the gum, because it can burn the tissue. If swelling spreads and makes it hard to breathe or swallow, go to the nearest emergency room right away. Otherwise, call us as soon as you can.
How We Relieve Your Pain
Our job is to get you comfortable, then work out what is really going on. We examine the tooth, take x-rays when needed and look for the root cause of the pain, not only the symptom. Depending on what we find, treatment may mean a repair, a root canal to save the tooth, or an extraction when a tooth cannot be saved. We explain each option plainly, so you can decide with a clear head even when you are hurting. Every member of your household is welcome, from teenagers to grandparents.
After the Emergency Is Over
Relief is only part of the job. Once the pain is under control, we make a plan to finish the repair and help prevent a repeat. You will leave knowing what happened to the tooth, what comes next and how to look after it at home. You will find us at 2632 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd in the Tradition area, and we are open until 8 pm on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. If you are hurting right now, call the office and tell us what is going on. We will do our best to see you promptly.
